You CAN still enjoy delicious food during the pre-op diet days and also the very restricted post-op diet days when you have to follow a liquid, then pureed diet!
In September 2018, I decided it was time to do something about my weight once and for all. I had been on diets on and off my entire life, starting at the age of 12; some had been ‘fad’ diets, others had been dietitian-supervised nutritionally-balanced diets, but despite all the years of trying, I kept putting more and more weight on over the years. Enough was enough! At the age of 46, I wanted to give myself the chance to live at least that long again, and to live well. I wanted to be able to enjoy a more active life-style, wear nice clothes and start wearing my collection of gorgeous shoes again, and feel better about how I looked. And I wanted to do it before I developed Type 2 Diabetes, or needed a hip or knee replacement, or before I became immobilised by my sciatica.
So, I booked myself an appointment with a great bariatric surgeon, discussed options with him and he agreed I’d be suitable for a gastric sleeve surgery (also known as a sleeve gastrectomy).
We booked the surgery for 16th November and on 5th November I started the pre-op low-cal, low-fat, low-carb diet.
